Demetri Martin’s low-key, child-like comedy is an unpleasant lot of fun to stare. One section Zach Galifianakis, one fraction Mitch Hedburg and with a hobble of early Pee Wee Herman on Ritalin, Demetri performs as though he’s a talented but odd kid putting on a note for his parents. Through stand up (“I like to stand around ATMs, wait until someone punches in their PIN number and say, ‘Got it!” and bustle away.”), exclusive say of idea music, graphs and pie charts of observations he’s made (“This graph represents how cute a girl is vs. how long I’ll listen to her talk about how intuitive her cat is…”), “Art”, and even some animation, it’s laugh out loud hilarious and worth watching twice.

Criticism? The stage play of “Where my comedy goes” could have been carve, or at least slit down. It’s silly, but goes on a bit too long, hence, I give the DVD 4 instead of 5 stars. An agreeable present by perhaps the next superstar humorous!
Demetri Martin is an extremely laughable young silly who doesn’t need the rants, raves, and fast-paced nonsense that other comics exercise in their acts. Demetri creates broad laughs from a witness or short quip. His comedy enlists the audience member to mediate, not unbiased react to some wild provocation. He fills the niche of subtle humor not tapped enough in this fast=paced world. He is astounding.

This is the film adaptation of what might be the best graphic recent I`ve ever read. There are no words to characterize how grand I savor the modern laughable book so I attended the North American premiere of Tekkon Kinkreet at the Moma in NY with high expectations.
Not only did the movie not fail to meet them but in fact added moving and unexpected layers to the narrative. I am an animator; I`m rarely elated with the technical aspects of most challenging features but the production on Tekkon is flawless. The animation, character accomplish, backgrounds and camera work are all top notch. The two main characters are rendered in all their complexity and the movie doesn’t disquieted away from the deep implications that the new legend holds within its pages.

The movie is faithful to the droll book and the storyline is basically the same. However, Michael Arias and studio 4C were sometimes inventive, albeit in appropriate and creative ways. The recent uniforms of the three warriors that Snake sends to slay Dark and White are pleasing and reminiscent of a Moebius illustration- the final confrontation between Shaded and the two remaining warriors is held in the amusement park instead of the car-shelter set (which makes room for unusual dynamic shots) – but my accepted shift from the unique material has to be the minotaur sequence. A lot of people complained that the movie is not as mettlesome as Mind Game (studio 4C`s previous adventure into chubby length features) but I disagree – the animation gets very experimental during the minotaur scene showing the thin line between reality and Black’s violence saturated subconscious. I loved the arrangement they communicated the internal struggle by using the graphic language of animation alone.
Overall, Mind Game’s pastiche of animation styles is probably more dauntless but Tekkon more than compensates for it’s more rigorous style with incredibly strong characters (MG characters came off as a minute wacky at times) and a fable that is so respectable that it hurts. If your eyes are not wet by the time Dim and White regain separated you are a soul-less fiend and you may want to reflect a career in advertising.
I haven’t been so exasperated about an anime since Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence hit the theaters; it’s a shame that while it was one of the most notable movies of the year in Japan, Tekkon Kinkreet got very shrimp distribution in Europe and in the US – so do yourself a favor and recall this DVD!
If you like Akira (Special Edition) or Ghost in the Shell, and view they were apt masterpieces despite their ambiguous style of storytelling, then you’ll treasure Tekkon Kinkreet. It’s as apt an anime as there ever was: it follows its gain style of storytelling, it has enchanting, even endearing characters, and the art is honest splendid. It sits comfortably next to some of the best anime ever to approach to the States.

Tekkon Kinkreet follows two young boys, known around the city as the Cats, but to each other they are Shadowy and White. Dim is a brooding, violent youngster with a gift for taking afflict and dishing it out. White is, simply, special; he’s empathic, enjoys life, and has a deep sense of when things aren’t true. He also seems to be magically gifted. That gift, however, has left White an innocent boy, incapable of growing up and acting his age; that’s why Sad feels obligated to protect the young boy, and the that means eliminating any possible threat to him and White, as well as the city in which they live. Thus, these two have a few enemies, including the Yakuza, some exclusive and remarkable alien assassins, and a mysterious creature known by the youth in the city as the “Minotaur.” All the while, the two are continually robbing and mugging those within their city so that they can conclude White’s dream of living in a house on a beach….
Yeah, lively, I know. But what makes the myth of Tekkon Kinkreet that grand better is the surreality of the whole thing. It doesn’t try to define much; it doesn’t have to. White and Dusky can speed at mammoth speeds and leap ten feet into the air; aliens exist; and a boy has the power to link himself mentally to his best friend. Why? Because they do…. And all the while, it’s as fantastically believable as a well told fantasy unusual.
Outside of that, the art and characters of Tekkon Kinkreet helps to drive the fable along. The settings contains so great detail that it’s impossible to earn anything. If this was a “Where’s Waldo” drawing, you’d never procure him. The character art is also sparkling, reminiscent of the short sequence in Destroy Bill, Volume 1.
Now, for the one drawback (which many older anime fans wouldn’t even mediate as a drawback) : this will be a very difficult anime for a new-comer to fetch into. The tale isn’t difficult to follow, but it can be confusing and the ending leaves a lot unanswered, as is the wont of anime. Serene, though, if you have some experience with anime, then you won’t be disappointed. The art is fine, the epic is involving, and the characters are endearing. I’d rate it higher if it were possible. Tekkon Kinkreet is definitely one of the best anime ever.

You like Jackie Chan films? Or remember Bruce Lee? If so, don’t miss this one from Thailand, where the film industry is thriving more than ever. And remember the name of Tony Jaa, stunt-turned-actor (incidentally, he was a stunt in the second ‘Mortal Kombat’ film, and his then co-worker was Ray Park, ‘X-Men’) Jaa’s martial arts skills based on Muay Thai (Thai-style fighting) are simply wonderful.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Ong-Bak – The Thai Warrior! Click Here
[NO STUNTS, NO CGIs] Strangely titled film ‘Ong-bak: Thai Warrior’ is, as the title says, an consuming Thai actioner starring Tony Jaa (exact name Panom Yeerum), who plays the hero Ting living in an apparently sleepy country in Thailand. Not exactly, you soon sight. In this piquant opening scene, you spy these scantily dressed guys climing up one broad tree, and during the fighting, they topple one by one onto the ground. This is actually a kind of festival, or ritual, of the hero’s village, but what you should realize is, the film uses NO CGIs, NO WIRES ATTACHED.
[FORGET THE STORY] Fable? Need one? OK, Tony Jaa’s hero has to track down the theives who crop off and stole the head of the sacred statue in his village. With this mission, he goes to town, where he meets one middle-aged man George, and his friend (perhaps girlfriend) Muay. Before you know it, they all got in troubles for the thugs originate attack them.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Ong-Bak – The Thai Warrior! Click Here
[ACTIONS] Then, actions open, which are simply eye-poping. One example: in the cat-and-mouse slouch scene in the market, running away from the terrible guys, Tony Jarr jumps over the tables, stalls, and cars (!) with Jackie’s comical timing. And explore how he slides into UNDER an RV! To add to them, he leaps through a ring of barbed wires (sincere ones, I scream), and comes out unharmed, never stopping a moment!
Himself a Muay Thai fighter, Tony Jaa (or his character) joins in several illegal boxing bouts. You might say you have seen this kind of bloody, bone-crunching fight sequences in the past. Not Tony Jaa’s high-kicking that strikes the opponent at the run of lightening. This sounds like cliche, I know, but it is legal, his agile movement reminds me of the deadly power of Bruce Lee and the ultra-fast accelerate of Jet Li.
And that’s not the slay, for Jaa does many, many other actions, which I refuse to write about here, for you should watch them for yourself in theatres. Again, I say, Tony Jaa uses no stunts, no special effects or no strings. Of course, he will not catch the Oscar for acting the hero of this film, but when he can fight like Lee, Chan, and Li, who cares?
My advice: ‘Ong-bak’ is a must for any fans who savor action films. Peep it, and be surprised.
I saw this movie recently at the Acadamy Theater in Pasadena, California. I was feeling a petite under the weather. There were about 20 other somber people in the theater, including my five year-old daughter who I brought with me despite my concerns about the R rating.
Suffice it to say that about thirty minutes into the movie the entire audience was visibly activated and energized by this stone-cold classic-for-eternity. My health had suddenly returned, I was pumped up on massive doses of epinephrine. Folks, this movie succeeeds on every level. I’m not a spacious martial arts expert like many of the reviewers, but I was a kid in the behind 60′s when Bruce Lee (and Jimi Hendrix) ruled the world, and rightly so. This is the only fighting movie which I’ve seen since which even comes stop to one of the better Bruce Lee movies. I will even contend, with some reservation, that it surpasses the Bruce Lee classics: there is humour, dramatic and sophisticated tuk-tuk amble scenes, foot-chase scenes, splendidly convincing archeological sights, and obviously, absolutely SAVAGE multiple fight scenes where valid defeats despicable with satisfying Dirty Harry righteousness. The fight scenes in this movie are certified artistic masterpieces and deserve their acquire special state at the Smithsonian. And, even the soundtrack is respectable, with a pulsating techno-style music that really builds the tension. This movie delivers the goods.
Having been to Thailand several times and loving that country, I was very tickled that this movie pays such a fitting tribute to their culture, the Thai kickboxing sport as well as the gentle and overjoyed demeanor of the Thai people.
I should mention that by the waste of the movie I had nothing but pleasure in having had my daughter search for the movie and section this recent experience. Goodness prevails over unfavorable. Dreadful guys die a deserved death. Disciplined boy saves his village through courage, honor, persistence and skill. Wayward soul (Ting’s cousin who has gambling debts and other character…flaws) is reminded of his roots through observing the integrity of his friend, and he finds spiritual redemption through his efforts at becoming a marvelous guy once again.Boy returns to village having honored his family and completed the mission…I’m horrified Sesame Street could not voice a better lesson about life and its struggles.
This movie will almost certainly become more notorious as time goes on and people outside of the martial arts community learn about it. I left the theater stupefied and enthralled. Unbiased awesome.

First of all, I’m very grateful that “French Postcards” finally has made it to DVD. I fell in like with this movie on HBO attend in 1980, when it seemed to be on at least once a day. It’s a sweet and silly movie that perfectly captures that in-between stage of life when you’re in college.
Buy,Download, Or Stream French Postcards! Click Here
The cast is terrific: The leisurely Valerie Quennessen is completely animated as Toni, a young French woman who falls in treasure with bookish American student Joel (Miles Chapin) . There’s also Blanche Baker, hilarious as she travels through Europe checking out the graves of renowned authors. The DVD packaging makes a great deal out of Debra Winger being in the cast, but she barely gets any camouflage time.
The movie is palatable, but as for the DVD? Well, although the box doesn’t set it, the music has been changed from the modern release. Section of the movie’s charm (and a humorous comment on the scenes) was the spend of French-language versions of American pop songs, including “Will You Like Me Tomorrow” and “Do You Occupy in Magic.” Those have all been excised, replaced by generic-sounding French songs. There were some eminent English-language recordings in here, too: The Kinks’ “(Wish I Could Cruise Like) Superman” and Nicolette Larson’s “Lotta Treasure” were both prominently featured. Now, the Kinks’ song has been replaced with an anoynmous dance tune; the Larson song has been replaced by…silence.

Perhaps the weirdest travel of all involves a play the students set aside on. During the course of the production, Baker leads the students in singing Cole Porter’s “You Don’t Know Paree.” However, the sequence in which Baker performs a solo has been completely removed. Then, instead of hearing the students train the song, we spy the students on stage, mouthing the words to the Porter song but the soundtrack has a chorus of tuneless people chanting: “I treasure Paris, oh how I treasure Paris, I worship Paris, it’s here I want to finish.” OK, even if you’ve never seen the movie before, I judge that would be noticeable.
The movie is presented in widescreen and the describe is blooming, but the butchering is a major disappointment. I realize this wasn’t a hit movie, but it’s composed wildly annoying. There are no extras and the packaging is rather sloppy: Even Quennessen’s name is misspelled on the box hide. So, again — fancy the movie, wished the DVD was better. Composed, it’s better than nothing.
This movie is impartial humdrum, musty fashioned, Fabulous FUN!
It was written/produced by the same team of writers and producers (Huyck & Katz) that penned American Grafitti and you can definitely seek a similar thematic flavor (learn the ample lessons of life/self realization before adulthood) flowing through this movie!
I net myself wanting to glimpse this movie every six months or so, objective to regain up with a few musty friends – that’s the blueprint the characters affect you in this movie – you want to go home with them and hang out with them and ogle what they’re up to today! I fell in care for with Toni (Valerie Quennessen) and Madame Tessier (Marie France Pisier) ; Joel (Miles Chapin) and Alex (David Marshall Grant) feel like they are my two best buds! Joel is absolutely hilarious when he tries to convince Mssr. Tessier to go ‘get a beer’ with him so he can prevent his best friend Alex from being discovered in bed with Madame Tessier. When he begs the Headmaster of the French Institute where he is studying to discontinuance his car by jumping on the spirited vehicle in desperation as if he’s dying and then, after finally getting the drivers attention, he honest saunters up to the window and casually asks “so, … wanna gather a beer? ” as if they are traditional buddies – I am absolutely screaming with laughter! He is forced to pretend to be FREAKING OUT on DOPE in order to convince the guy to go to the hospital in the hopes of having him avoid catching his wife in bed with Alex! This endears the Joel character to you because we all treasure a person that cares enough to risk his very reputation and future (“20 yrs in my possess Country and nothing like this ever happened to me – you’re legal – I am FREAKING OUT”) for his friend! This is Ben Stiller-esque style comedy with the subtle nuances of facial ticks and casual glances – I gather Miles Chapin to be a very, very comical and charming actor!
I appreciate the scene where he is trying to fit in with some French students on a screwy date and he wins the heart of the adorably cute and sexy Toni because he’s so pleasant and amusing!
You will Care For this flick – lots of icy surprises, first time sightings of future stars (Debra Winger’s first speaking portion in a exiguous role as another student at the Institute; Mandy Patinkin as a Persian chauvinist) and gargantuan, touching, diminutive scenes (the scene where Alex and Joel say Satisfactory BYE at the ruin is very well done and almost makes you want to roar) as well as some valid essential life lessons accomplish this a very scrumptious movie experience that you may want to observe five or ten times!

Finally …… one of those DVD re-releases I’ve been practically holding my breath for, and was not disappointed. This criminally overlooked gem was trashed by critics upon its release in 1970, and never enjoyed a video transfer capable of the filmmaker’s disaster, not even on laserdisc! And as you can watch from the varying reviews, the controversy rages on. Which fair proves how alive and well and timely a film Catch-22 truly is.
Mike Nichols captures the essence of Joseph Heller’s defining anti-war classic quite admirably, with a faithful adaptation by Buck Henry (who can be seen along with a veritable Who’s Who period ensemble cast), with an gaze as removed and impartial as Kubrick, yet at times very visually subjective ….. an arrive traditional to gigantic advantage in his previous hit film The Graduate. All the verbal and ethical contradictions of the book bring its dim humor to demented life, through a kaleidoscopic cavalcade of archtypical characters who create up the living nightmare of one Captain Yossarian, who has decided he can no longer fill to flee the combat missions his superiors have made it impossible to obtain out of. To procure out of flying, he has to be officially diagnosed as “crazy”, and must inquire of to be grounded ….. but if he requests to be grounded, then he’s not really crazy, and is therefore eligible to retain flying missions. That’s some net, that Catch-22.
This film, like the book on which it’s based, is not so mighty an indictment of the insanity of war as it is a see at how the corporate mentality can secure its draw into the noblest of causes, and how beurocratic manipulations devaluate basic human principles, which engage a relieve seat to merely “looking worthy”. A timeless theme indeed. This skewed logic is cheerfully approved by all the story’s characters ….. until our Yossarian’s eyes are opened to the product of that logic literally disemboweled at his fingertips (yes, that scene was set aside help in!), and suddenly he is the outsider whose prime mission is to avoid any more missions. Which is not an easy thing to do when Brass keeps adding more after you’ve completed your tour of duty.

As far as the transfer itself: It has probably never looked better since the recent theatrical release over 30 years ago, especially being the first widescreen release of this title, which is the only diagram to experience it as intended. The transfer team did the best they could with the mono soundtrack, I’m distinct, which does procure compressed and distorted at times, something we enthusiasts of early films live with.
Mike Nichols’ Catch-22 may only relish cult site, but it is DVD releases like this (and that other oddball, star-studded 60′s curiosity Candy) that build one truly luxuriate in what is being done with this revolutionary medium. Hey, not all movies can be for everybody. Long live the Anti-Blockbusters!

Catch-22 is based on Joseph Heller’s original about an American air dismal in the Mediterranean during World War II. Again, if you are a reader IMHO the book Joseph Heller’s Catch-22 (Barron’s Book Notes) is better, the movie quicker, Starring Alan Arkin and Martin Balsam.
Recommended for fans of Alan Arkin and Martin Balsam.

I quiet have knowing memories of being a kid and hearing Bill Cosby do his The Dentist sketch on a point to called Solid Gold. It was easily the funniest thing I had ever heard in my life, and I went around telling everyone unprejudiced how hilarious Bill Cosby was. At the time, I only knew Cosby from his Portray Pages segments on Captain Kangaroo and the Elephantine Albert cartoons, and I actually felt like some type of visionary when a petite television vehicle called The Cosby Point To debuted soon thereafter based to a substantial degree on the comedy you will accept on both the album and video of Bill Cosby, Himself. A few of the skits in this performance were translated almost directly to the shroud in the show’s first few episodes.
The Bill Cosby, Himself video is hilarious; I aloof laugh every time I notice it, no matter how many times I’ve heard the routines. There was a time when I practically had The Dentist memorized, but I serene appreciate to hear it (and I felt privileged indeed to hear that sage told again on the occasion I had to peer Cosby accomplish live some years after this video came out) . Cosby’s humor resonates so well with audiences because he is describing and joking about things we all know and understand to some degree. He doesn’t need to expend despicable language or train dirty jokes in order to advance his audience. He comes in, sits in a tiring, traditional chair in front of the live audience at Toronto’s Hamilton Status Performing Arts Center, and honest starts talking about the amusing things in life. The audience feels as if Cosby is one of them, and the connection between audience and humorous is immediate and much.
The laughable material on Bill Cosby, Himself, deals primarily with family life – marriage, children, etc. He makes the birth of his first child a hilarious fling into the delivery room, explains that parents age and lose a lot of their intellect because of the brain injure that characterizes all of their children, explains how differently his parents treat his beget children compared to the device they treated him, offers a incredible illustration of the talent fathers have of getting out of doing things, and describes quite vividly some of the antics of his contain five children over the years. He also describes the typical weekend activities of people who go out drinking and questions objective how hangovers and nausea can be considered significant parts of “having a great time.”

Bill Cosby knows people, and he knows what will construct them laugh; he is also one of the greatest storytellers in the world. He is at his funniest on this video, and I really can’t imagine there is anyone out there who would not devour watching Bill Cosby, Himself. This is comedy at its very best.
I was so overjoyed to bag out this was coming out on DVD. I owned the video of this and watched it so mighty I ended up wearing the tape out. This to me is Bill Cosby at his stand up best. After all these years I calm pick up myself laughing hard, with tears running down my face like it’s the first time I’ve seen his performance. Bill Cosby is an awesome narrative teller. Vow location is simple. The stage, and a chair. He tells a memoir and he really has something to talk about. Unlike some of the comedians to today that cuss to maintain in the station where they ran out of things to say. Bill Cosby knew how to be amusing without all the unfriendly language.

I care for it when he talks about his wife going into labor and grabbing his bottom lip and lifting it over his head screaming “I want morphine!!!!!” “Mom can’t have drugs; the father can have all the drugs he wants.” He talks about how his parents want to collect into heaven and treats the grandchildren better then they treated him as a child. Brain damaged children, feeding chocolate cake to the children for breakfast. How fathers are more fun then Moms because fathers are allowed to have gas. The Baby poo poo. He talks about being high and laughing for no reason. Drugs and paranoia, Getting drunk, going to the Dentist. Brain Damaged children saying “I don’t know” when you ask them a put a question to.
You can luxuriate in the material because you can represent to it. Some of what Bill talks about you may have experience yourself, and now you can laugh about it if you did not laugh about it before. Granted the sound quality is not the best, but considering this was taped in 1982 you can’t really be too upset. Fair turn up the volume and devour!!! This is a astounding, fabulous DVD you should contain to round out your stand up comedy collection. You will witness this over and over, and laugh each time you concept this DVD.

This one has 3 episodes, with the first being the classic early 80′s Xmas Special, A Chipmunk Christmas. This is the one where Alvin gives up his prize harmonica to a sick boy for Christmas, then is in a bind because Dave booked them at Carnegie Hall and now he doesn’t have it to play.

The other 2 episodes are from the behind 80′s TV note, The Chipmunks. The first is named Merry Christmas Mr. Carroll, and I absorb it is one in the same as the VHS release a while abet called Alvin’s Christmas Carol. It is excatly that, Alvin is being stingy and makes up a ample Christmas list, and then is taught the meaning of Christmas by 3 ghosts.
The last episode, Dave’s Fabulous Life, is in the spirit of Christmas and the sage of It’s A Extraordinary Life, however there isn’t really anthing festive or Christmasy depicted.

A must have for the 2 Xmas episodes, escpecially the first one, where we pick up the classic holiday tune, The Chipmunk Song!
This DVD is quite refreshing. Not only does it have the 1980 classic A Chipmunk Christmas, but it has two Christmas episodes from the Chipmunk series, doing their versions of a Christmas Carol and It’s A Incredible Life in their possess cute plot. A big addition to any Christmas collection.
The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is I’m a itsy-bitsy disappointed there were no special features on this DVD. Alvin has been a immense addition to Christmas ever since the release of that classic song “The Chipmunk Song” (1958) . Some things on that could have been added. But I’m level-headed delighted to have Alvin and the Chipmunks as piece of my Christmas.

I can’t really say more about Charlie Chaplin, I’m clear you’re all aware of his genius not only acting but directing and writing. This movie, The Kid, really showcases his talent, which surprised me because of the early date of the film, 1921. It was also the second highest-grossing film in that year. And the praise is deserved, because the Kid is a lot of things. It’s a comedy, yes, but it’s got loads of serious drama, probably the first film to do combine the two. Charlie Chaplin was socially aware, and this film is also considered the first to describe realistically the conditions of the lower urban classes at the beginning of the Gilded Age. The Kid is also impartial a flat-out mountainous movie, the emotional bond between Mr. Chaplin and, also considered the first child star actor, Jackie Coogan serves as the basis for a touching and silly feature. Can’t wait to demonstrate this one to my kids a microscopic later.

This is a complete turnaround from the 1st vid. Its also a completely different anecdote. The animation is fairly edifying however the state is aloof rather lame. The vid is NOT FOR THE HOMOPHOBIC! There is alot of overjoyed scenes throughout the movie. Also Sailor moon is seen all of a petite.
It was kind of uncommon because the narrative didn’t accomplish no sense but it was a tiny humorous.
